The Semovente, a self-propelled gun developed and deployed by the Italian army during World War II, is based on the chassis of the M13 medium tank Carro Armato. It features a fixed combat compartment in place of the rotating turret, and is armed with an 18-caliber 75mm howitzer, the da75/18. After successful trials in 1941, it was standardized as the M40da75/18 and saw combat in North Africa, including the battles of El Alamein and Tunisia. Initially produced using M13/40 chassis, around 60 units were built, and later models like the Semovente M41 were produced using the 13/41 tank chassis. Considered one of the most successful Italian army combat vehicles of World War II, approximately 262 units were produced.
