C Squadron's post-D-Day experience showed that smaller, nimbler scout car units excelled in reconnaissance over bulkier armored cars. Thus, in July, they restructured to include six light platoons of two scout cars and three heavy troops of one scout car and two armored cars. To meet the increased demand for scout cars, crews and the divisional REME innovatively converted excess armored cars into light reconnaissance vehicles by removing their turrets and mud guards. These field-modified Daimler Armored Cars, dubbed 'Sawn-off Daimlers' or 'SODs', became invaluable within the Inns of Court.
