The first MiG-21s arrived in Poland in 1963, during a period of intensifying rivalry between East and West. The aircraft quickly became a pillar of Polish military aviation, and deliveries of the MiG-21MF version between 1972 and 1975 introduced as many as 120 units into service, which remained in use until 2003. Thanks to this, the MiG-21MF was not only fast and maneuverable, but also exceptionally dangerous in air combat, both in Poland and in other Eastern Bloc countries.
